Here’s The Proof of Concept Greenhouse.
This is the front and pool side of the house with the hedge garden and a red oak in November and December 2010 before the tree died. The tree roots also dislodged some of the low decorative brick wall.
Take what’s given. After transplanting the boxwood bushes and holly and turning the tree into firewood plus grinding the stump and lots of hand digging the area became an almost blank canvas.
Concrete footings were poured. I designed the structure to be a portable, temporary room that leans against the house. It can be easily removed.

October and November 2015
After kitchen table drafting, I found a way to build it against the house without any actual attachment to the windows and yet they can open to let the greenhouse warmth into the living room while keeping the rain out. The 3/4 inch 10′ PVC pipes insert into the 2 by 4 material to create a tension arch. They should withstand a Georgia snow load.
Louvered windows in front are from our 1978 Toyota pickup camper top that was deconstructed in the mid 90’s.
In this picture you can clearly see the break in the brick wall provided by the red oak.
Through the window is the Tower Garden with 3 week old seedlings –
Jan 2, 2016.
One month later here’s what we have. Still many cups to fill with more seedlings and our first Lettuce harvest plus 4 leaves of Kale and one of Chard. The Peas are growing great but no flowers yet. Tomato plants look really healthy.
Now, I will build a whole wall of growing tubes with these cups that will have their own reservoir or will tap into the one at the bottom of the Tower Garden.
Mid-February I also will be planting seeds for my outdoor 2016 garden.
The first week of March.
